We are thrilled to announce that this year's event will take place over two action-packed days, on Saturday, October 28th, and Sunday, October 29th, 2023.

Day one of our event, Saturday, October 28th, will feature a series of engaging workshops and exhilarating freeplay sessions, led by the esteemed guest instructor, Chris Vanslambrouck. With over 30 years of experience as a dedicated student of history and martial arts, Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. During the Saturday workshops, participants will have the unique opportunity to delve deep into the art of historical fencing. Under Chris's expert guidance, you will explore various techniques and strategies, honing your skills and gaining a deeper understanding of this rich martial tradition. From 9 am to noon and 1 pm to 3 pm, the workshops will offer an immersive and educational experience that will leave you feeling empowered and inspired.

On Sunday, October 29th, get ready to step back in time as we transport you to the enchanting world of 16th-century fechtschules. From 10 am to 5 pm, our Fechtschule will immerse you in an authentic and meticulously recreated historical setting. Drawing inspiration from the techniques and practices of the period, this day promises a truly unforgettable experience. Engage in thrilling sparring sessions, witness breathtaking demonstrations, and deepen your appreciation for the martial arts of the past.

To ensure a personalized and intimate environment, we are capping the attendance to 70 participants per day.

If you prefer to focus solely on the workshops or the Fechtschule, we offer individual options as well. You can attend the workshops for $75 or the Fechtschule for $45. EVENT DETAILS

REGISTRATION PROCESS

PLEASE REGISTER EACH ATTENDEE INDIVIDUALLY WHEN POSSIBLE.

When Registering for Meyer October Fecht be sure to choose the registration type that fits with the activities you are going to participate in at the event, and press the "Add to Cart" button. You will have the opportunity to review your selection on the "Cart" page, if everything is correct, please select the "Complete Registration" button to proceed.

Next you will be asked to complete registration form for the person attending the event, name, contact info, club or school affiliation, you will also be asked to confirm that you are aware that you will need to sign the event's Release and Waiver of Liability Agreement at the door before entering the event.

If you are registering for a minor that you are a parent or legal guardian of, please fill out the registration with their name. You will need to be present to execute the waiver to provide parental consent and remain on-site with them throughout the event. 

Once you complete the registration form the "Checkout" buttons to proceed to the payment form.

Once you have paid for your registration, you will receive an email receipt as well as an additional email to access your tickets electronically.

CODE OF CONDUCT

  • All fighters will be expected to fight with both skill and control.
  • Fighters are expected to act professionally, and respectful to the officiating staff.
  • Fighters are expected to always follow the commands of the event staff.
  • Anyone, including spectators, may call a hold for safety reasons at any time, so please pay attention.
  • Anyone may be ejected from the event at anytime by event staff without prior warning if found to be unsafe and or just not a nice person

There will be on-site concessions, but we are close to many restaurants.

Respect the bathrooms of this borrowed space. Clean up after yourself. If there is an issue of concern, PLEASE find a member of the Meyers Combat Academy to help sort it out. We would rather know about a problem and sort it out than leave it unresolved and get in trouble with the facility.

Our facility is a gymnastics training center, this means there is a lot of equipment and trampolines around the area. Do not, under any circumstances, interact with the gear or other property, it is not meant for shared use. This includes their training instruments, merchandise, clothing, trophies, etc..

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT / GEAR

Fencing without heavy protection means that your main protection is your sword and this requires a different mindset.

All participants must possess the following equipment:

  • Fencing mask: A mask providing full face protection, including the back of the head.
  • Longsword-approved gloves: Gloves specifically designed for historical fencing to ensure hand protection and dexterity. Sufficiently protective gloves for the weapon you are fencing against
  • Forearm protection: Rigid or padded guards to minimize the risk of injury.
  • Elbow protection: Gear covering at least three points on the elbow joint to prevent damage during exchanges.

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT / GEAR

Participants are encouraged to consider the following optional protective gear for enhanced safety (all equipment is subject to inspection)

Gambeson: A padded jacket worn beneath the fencing attire to provide additional protection against impact.

Gorget: A neck protector designed to safeguard the vulnerable throat area.

Fencing pants: Specialized pants constructed for increased mobility and protection.

Plastron: A protective undergarment worn beneath the jacket to provide extra defense for vital areas.

Registration to October Fecht is Non-Refundable.

  • FULL EVENT REGISTRATION

    Full Event Registration provides access to both days of the event. Saturday workshop with instructor Chris Vanslambrouck as well as entry into the Sunday 16th-century Fechtschule.

  • WORKSHOPS ONLY

    Saturday, October 28th, will feature a series of engaging workshops and exhilarating freeplay sessions, led by the esteemed guest instructor, Chris Vanslambrouck. With over 30 years of experience as a dedicated student of history and martial arts, Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table.

    This pass will also allow you to spectate the Fechtschule on Sunday.

  • FECHTSCHULE ONLY

    Sunday, October 29th, step back in time as we transport you to the enchanting world of 16th-century fechtschules. Chris Vanslambrouck, with over 30 years of experience as a student of history and martial arts, is a passionate advocate, practitioner, researcher, and instructor of Historical Fencing.

As the principal instructor of the Madison MFFG and president of the Meyer Freifechter Guild, Chris focuses on studying Joachim Meyer and applying his art through the Fechtschule combat sport.
