HONORING JASON TAYLOR

The Open Steel Longsword Tournament at SoCal Swordfight is named in honor, love, and memory of Jason Taylor. As a founding member of Kron Martial Arts, Jason's tireless efforts in learning, teaching, and growing the HEMA community have shaped Southern California's HEMA landscape. His legacy lives on through the many clubs, schools, and events he inspired, including SoCal Swordfight itself. As you prepare to participate, take a moment to reflect on Jason's pioneering spirit and the profound impact he has had on all our HEMA journeys.

TIERED COMPETITION

Competitors will be divided into tiers based on Number of Fighters, HEMA Rating, known performance, and instructor recommendations. Tier placements will be announced on HEMA Scorecard as the event approaches.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT

This is a bring-your-own-sword event. Your longsword must be from the approved list or pre-cleared by the SoCal Swordfight team. All weapons will undergo a thorough safety inspection. Additional gear requirements are outlined on HEMA Scorecard.

JUDGING REQUIREMENT

Every participant must judge one pool within their tier for each tournament they enter. This crucial role contributes to the event's success and fosters community engagement. Opting out incurs a $25 fee, but we strongly encourage participation in judging to enrich the tournament experience.

First, you’ll need to register each attendee individually. As you begin, choose the registration type that aligns with the activities you plan to participate in. If you opt for Full Event Registration, you’ll be prompted to select the specific tournaments you want to enter. The system will display only those tournaments that are appropriate for your age and registration type, making it easy to find the right fit.

Once you've made your selections, review your choices on the cart page. If everything looks correct, click the "Check Out" button to proceed. You’ll then fill out a registration form with essential details, including your name, contact information, and any club or school affiliation. Additionally, you’ll need to sign the Release and Waiver of Liability Agreement to ensure a safe environment for all participants.

If you are registering for a minor and are their parent or legal guardian, simply enter their name in the registration form. The waiver will automatically adjust to request parental consent once you input their date of birth.
