After a childhood of swinging sticks around pretending they were swords, a chance meeting introduced Kevin to Historical Fencing and he never looked back. He is a certified Master at Arms in Classical Fencing from the Sonoma State Fencing Masters Program, and holds a Prevot d’Epee certificate from the USFCA.

Kevin is a co-founder of the Sacramento Sword School; a former coach at the Davis Fencing Academy and the UC Davis fencing club; and a visiting instructor at the Sacramento Historical Fencing Academy. Kevin is adjunct faculty at the Sonoma State Fencing Masters Program, one of the core instructors at the Rapier and Saber Pedagogy Symposium (RASP), and has taught seminars at multiple HEMA events including VISS, WMAW and SoCal Swordfight. Within the SCA, Kevin is a ninth generation White Scarf and a member of the Order of Defense. Most recently, Kevin rekindled an interest in Japanese Sword Arts; studying Ono-ha Itto-ryu, where he is an assistant instructor at the Hokuto Dojo in Roseville, CA.  

Kevin’s research interests include methods of applying modern and classical pedagogy to HEMA, and the evolution of fencing theory within the Italian tradition. As a fencer, Kevin’s primary systems are 17th century Italian rapier, Destreza, and late 19th century Italian saber. Kevin is currently ranked third on HEMA ratings in Rapier and Dagger.

The Sacramento Historical Fencing Academy is the home of Historical European Martial Arts and Historical Fencing in the Greater Sacramento area. Formed in 2012 as the Sacramento Freifechter, a study group focused on Joachim Meyer's Kunst des Fechtens (the Art of Fighting), we have since grown to incorporate other traditional, and not so traditional, fencing activities.
